The air your building needs
Evaporative cooling is sized by air changes, not by tonnage. Floor area is multiplied by the air each duty needs per square foot — 12 for an office, 16.7 for a warehouse, 22 for a production floor, 30 where there is real process heat. That gives the airflow requirement in CMH, and the machines are selected to meet it.
The air conditioning baseline
Taken straight from our catalogue: 1,000 sq.ft = 8 ton = 9 kW, which is 125 sq.ft per ton and 1.125 kW per ton. That is the standard Indian commercial rule of thumb. We have not adjusted it to make the comparison look better, and you can change the tariff and hours to whatever your bill actually says.
The cost of running each
Power in kilowatts × hours per day × your tariff per unit. Annual figures use 30 days per month across the season length you set. Nothing is compounded, no maintenance or water cost is netted off either side, and no capital cost appears anywhere — because we do not know yours yet.

Our product catalogue works through a 1,000 sq.ft space. You can reproduce it here exactly: set the area slider to 1,000 sq.ft, leave the duty on warehouse or hall, and keep Air-X selected.
At 125 sq.ft per ton, 1,000 sq.ft is an 8 ton air conditioning load, which is 9 kW. The same floor needs about 16,700 CMH of air, and one AirX 18K delivers 18,000 CMH on 1.1 kW.
Run both for 10 hours a day at ₹10 per unit and the air conditioning costs ₹900 a day against ₹110 a day for the cooling. Those are the two numbers on page 4 of the catalogue, and the calculator above produces them from the same inputs rather than from a stored answer.
Move the sliders and the arithmetic moves with them. That is the whole point — a saving figure you cannot interrogate is a marketing claim, not a calculation.
What the calculator will not tell you
Three things it deliberately leaves out, because we would have to invent numbers to include them.
- Payback in months. Payback needs a purchase price. Our catalogue quotes 12 to 18 months, and we report that as the catalogue’s claim — but your real payback comes off your quotation, not off a slider.
- The temperature you will feel. That depends on the humidity of the air on the day. A dry Jodhpur afternoon and a humid coastal one behave very differently.
- Installation cost. Brackets, cabling, water line, and ducting if you need it. It is quoted per site, and on a ducted job it is a significant part of the total.

Where this comparison stops being fair
The saving is real, and it is large. But a like-for-like reading of it requires three honest caveats, and you should hear them from us rather than from whoever you buy from next.
- Almost nobody air conditions a 20,000 sq.ft shed. Above a few thousand square feet the air conditioning column stops describing a real alternative and starts describing why the space is not cooled at all today. The comparison is still the right way to value the cooling — it is just not a quote you were ever going to receive.
- The two systems do not do the same job. Evaporative cooling replaces the air and adds moisture to it. Air conditioning recirculates the air and removes moisture. If you need dehumidified or tightly controlled air — a server room, a cold store, a humidity-sensitive process — no saving makes cooling the right answer.
- Water, pads and pumps are not free. Pads are consumables, pumps and float valves wear, and the units use water. It is a small running cost next to the electricity, but it is not zero, and we have not quietly deducted it from the air conditioning side to flatter the comparison.

Questions people ask about the numbers
How much electricity does an industrial air cooler use?
Between 0.85 kW and 4.5 kW per unit across our range, depending on the model. To put that in context, the AirX 18K draws 1.1 kW while moving 18,000 CMH — roughly the airflow needed for 1,000 sq.ft of warehouse — against about 9 kW for the 8 ton of air conditioning the same area would take. At ₹10 a unit and 10 hours a day that is ₹110 versus ₹900. The exact figures for every model are published on our products page.
Is the saving shown here guaranteed?
No, and we would be careful with any supplier who says otherwise. The airflow and power figures are catalogue specifications and the arithmetic is shown openly above, but your saving depends on your tariff, your running hours, your season length and whether the units are installed and maintained properly. We would rather you treated it as a well-founded estimate you can check than as a promise.
Why does the calculator not show me a payback period?
Because payback needs a purchase price, and we do not publish one — the honest price depends on the number of units, the discharge configuration, and whether ducting, diffusers and installation are in scope. Our catalogue states a 12 to 18 month payback and that is a reasonable expectation, but we are not going to put an invented price into a calculator to manufacture the number. Ask for a quotation and the payback becomes arithmetic you can do yourself in a minute.
How do I know how many units I actually need?
Start with the airflow requirement the calculator gives you, which is floor area multiplied by the air changes your duty needs. Then divide by the airflow of the model you are considering. The tool does this and suggests the fewest units that meet the requirement. What it cannot see is the shape of your building — a long, narrow or partitioned space usually needs the same total airflow split across more units to get the coverage right, which is what the free site survey sorts out.
What electricity tariff should I use?
Whatever your last bill shows per unit, including fixed and fuel surcharge components if you want to be strict about it. Commercial and industrial tariffs across Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra commonly fall between ₹7 and ₹12 a unit. The default of ₹10 is the figure used in our catalogue, so the tool opens on the same basis as the printed example.
Does the CO₂ figure mean anything, or is it decoration?
It is the electricity you did not use, multiplied by 0.71 kg of CO₂ per unit — the Central Electricity Authority’s average emission factor for the Indian grid. It is a fair way to state avoided emissions and it is genuinely useful if you report energy or are chasing a green building rating. It is an average for the national grid, not a measurement of your own supply, and we would present it that way in any document you put your name to.
