Blow-X Series: blower air coolers built for ducted installations

Two blower units for the jobs an axial fan cannot do. Where the cool air has to travel through ducting to reach a partitioned office, a finished banquet hall, a clean area or a fully racked godown, a blower is the only machine that will get it there — and it means the plant sits outside, not in the room.

Why this series

Pressure, not just volume

A blower is not a bigger fan. It is a different machine: a centrifugal wheel spinning inside a housing, throwing air outward and building up pressure as it goes. That pressure is the whole point, because pressure is what lets air travel somewhere it does not want to go.

Every metre of duct, every bend, every diffuser grille takes something out of the airflow. An axial fan has almost no pressure to spare, so it loses that fight and the air never arrives. A blower is built to win it — which is why, if the cool air has to be delivered rather than simply blown, this is the series you need.

The second advantage follows from the first. Because the air is ducted, the machine does not have to be in the room. It sits outside on a plinth or on the roof, where the noise stays outside, the water stays outside, and it can be serviced without anyone walking into a production area, a banquet hall mid-function or a partitioned office floor.

  • Built for ducting. Side discharge connects naturally to a duct spigot, and the blower has the static pressure to push air along the run.
  • The machine lives outside. Nothing in the occupied space except cool air coming out of a diffuser.
  • The lowest published power draw in the range. The Blow X 18K runs on 0.85 kW, and the 30K on 1.1 kW.
  • The smallest footprint we make. The 18K cabinet is 980 × 980 mm, which matters when the only space available is a service passage or a plinth against a boundary wall.
  • 100 mm honeycomb pads. The same full pad depth as the rest of the range — the cooling performance does not drop because the machine is ducted.

Cooling areas are indicative of each machine’s duty; on a ducted installation the area one unit actually serves is set by the duct and diffuser design, which is why we size from airflow in CMH and confirm coverage from a site survey rather than from a square-foot figure. What ducted delivery involves

Buying the blower is the easy part

A ducted system is an engineering job, and it is where most of the value — or most of the disappointment — comes from. Four things have to be right.

Duct sizing

Too small and air velocity climbs, which means noise at the diffuser and pressure the blower has to overcome. Too large and you have paid for sheet metal you did not need. It is calculated from the airflow, not estimated from the outlet size.

Pressure budget

Every straight metre, every elbow, every branch and every grille consumes part of the pressure the blower produces. Add them up before selecting the machine, not after, or the air stops halfway down the run.

Diffuser placement

Air has to arrive where people are, at a speed they find comfortable. Diffusers in the wrong positions produce a hall that is cold in two corners and untouched in the middle — with the airflow figures still technically correct.

A return path

Air pushed in must be able to leave. Without a designed outlet the space pressurises, incoming airflow falls away and the cooling stops. Louvres, ridge vents or relief ducts are part of the design, not an afterthought.

The airflow requirement is a property of your building, not of the machine — floor area multiplied by the air changes the duty needs. Find your area, read across, and you have a starting configuration.

Configurations shown are the fewest Blow-X units that meet the airflow requirement. On a ducted system the real design usually distributes the same airflow across more units or more duct branches, because coverage matters as much as volume. Spaces with heavy process heat — a commercial kitchen, a foundry, a welding bay — are designed at around 30 CMH per sq.ft, so add roughly a third to the production-floor column. Where Blow-X is the wrong choice

If you do not need ducting, do not pay for pressure

A blower is the right machine for a specific job. Outside that job, an axial unit is usually the better buy — and we will say so.

  • You have an open shed with a free outside wall. Then there is nothing for the air to fight through. An Air-X unit in a wall opening will cool the same floor for a lower total installed cost, because there is no ducting to fabricate.
  • You need more than 30,000 CMH from one machine. The Blow-X series tops out at 30,000 CMH. Above that you are either adding units or looking at the AirX 50K, depending on whether ducting is genuinely required.
  • Nobody is going to design the ductwork. A blower connected to guessed-at ducting performs worse than an axial unit blowing straight into the room. If ducting is in scope, the design has to be in scope too.

Typical Blow-X situations

The pattern repeats. In every one of these the machine cannot go where the heat is:

  • Banquet hall or marriage garden — a finished ceiling, guests who cannot hear a fan, and a service yard outside where the plant can live.
  • Partitioned office floor — cabins and corridors that a single wall-mounted unit cannot reach.
  • Clean or packing area — filtered ducted supply, with the machine and its water outside the controlled zone.
  • Fully racked godown — every wall stacked to the roof, so the only route in for air is overhead ducting.

Questions about this series

What is static pressure, and why does it decide which machine I need?

Static pressure is how hard a fan can push against resistance, as opposed to how much air it can move when there is nothing in the way. Ducting is resistance: friction along the run, turbulence at every bend, restriction at every diffuser. A machine with plenty of airflow but little static pressure will deliver almost nothing at the far end of a duct. That is the entire reason the Blow-X series exists alongside the Air-X series, and the reason a specification that quotes only CMH is incomplete for a ducted job.

How long a duct run can one Blow-X unit handle?

There is no single number, and any supplier who gives you one without seeing the layout is guessing. It depends on the duct cross-section, the number and radius of the bends, how many diffusers are on the run and how much air each one has to deliver. We calculate the pressure budget for your actual layout at design stage and select the machine against it — and if the run needs two units rather than one, we will tell you that before you order rather than after commissioning.

Can I use a Blow-X unit without any ducting?

Yes. Side discharge straight into a space works perfectly well, and people do it where the cabinet footprint or the power draw is the deciding factor. You are simply paying for pressure capability you are not using — which is fine if the machine suits the space in other ways, but on a wide-open floor an Air-X unit will normally give you more air for the money.

Does the machine have to sit outside the building?

It does not have to, but it usually should. Outside on a plinth or a roof means the fan noise and the water stay out of the occupied space, the unit draws fresh outside air directly — which is what makes evaporative cooling work — and it can be serviced without anyone entering a production area or interrupting a function. Indoor plant rooms are possible where there is a proper fresh-air intake, and we design that route as part of the job.

Will it be quiet inside the hall?

Much quieter than a unit mounted in the room, because the machine itself is outside and only the air comes in. What you hear indoors is air moving at the diffusers, and that is controlled by the duct design — keep the velocity low enough and it becomes background. This is precisely why banquet halls, showrooms, auditoriums and offices end up on ducted systems rather than wall-mounted ones.

Can ducting be added to a building that already has coolers fitted?

Often, yes, and it is a common request — someone installed wall-mounted units, the far end of the building never got cool, and now the shutters cannot be left open. We survey what is already there, work out whether the existing machines can be repositioned or ducted usefully, and quote the difference. Sometimes the answer is that the existing units are fine where they are and the gap needs one ducted Blow-X. We would rather tell you that than sell you a full replacement.
